In the main event of the WWE Backlash 2023 premium live event, Brock Lesnar lost to Cody Rhodes via clean pin-fall. In what appeared to be a vengeful night for the winner at the PLE, Cody not only had won the bout but he also massacred the newly turned heel with a pre-match attack with a Steel Ring Step and a Steel Chair.
Brock Lesnar got busted open during the match at WWE Backlash 2023 after going head-first into an exposed turnbuckle. Cody pinned Brock while being locked in the Kimura Lock by rolling up the beast on his back. Lesnar was seen profusely bleeding from his face and the referee threw a towel at Brock after the match, so he could clean himself up.

Originally WWE Backlash 2023 went off the air with Cody retreating from the ring after his win and holding his arm, while Lesnar was left in the ring in shock. Once the cameras stopped rolling on WWE’s part, Lesnar received a standing ovation from the crowd in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In a video posted to YouTube by WrestlingNews.Co, The Beast Incarnate stopped in the ring for a few minutes after WWE Backlash 2023 as the Puerto Rico crowd chanted Suplex City and thanked him for his performance despite his loss and recent heel turn. With Lesnar approaching closer to the end of his career, this moment could have marked a farewell from the Puerto Rico fans at WWE Backlash 2023. He might not ever go back to the island after last night. In the first place, the former champion may not be even booked for the show if not Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns would miss the show.

WWE Backlash 2023 marked WWE’s first premium live event in Puerto Rico since the 2005 edition of New Year’s Revolution which was headlined by an Elimination Chamber Match. It was also the first time that the Puerto Rico crowd got to see Lesnar for the first time ever, live inside the squared circle. There’s no update on whether Lesnar will continue making appearances on WWE TV after this PLE.
