WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque has made his intentions clear about bringing more international PLEs to the WWE calendar. Living up to his previous words, The Game expressed his excitement about bringing WWE Backlash 2023 to San Juan. In a statement on Twitter, she stated the following by retweeting WWE’s announcement about the May PLE,

“We’re excited to bring Backlash to San Juan as the demand for WWE premium live events outside of the continental United States continues to grow. Bad Bunny is one of the world’s most-popular entertainers and nowhere is that more evident than in his native Puerto Rico.”

The fact that Bad Bunny will host WWE Backlash 2023 should bring mainstream attention to the event without a doubt. The celebrity rapper first appeared in WWE in January 2021 at the Royal Rumble for a musical performance.

He later participated in a tag team match at WrestleMania 37 in April, where he teamed up with Damian Priest to defeat The Miz and John Morrison. Then Bunny also returned to the WWE to participate in the 2022 Royal Rumble match, where he was vanquished once the winner Brock Lesnar entered the fray.

WWE Backlash 2023 is the first WWE premium live event to take place in Puerto Rico since January 2005. The last time a pay-per-view took place in the region was New Year’s Revolution, which took place at the same arena where the upcoming PLE is scheduled to go down. It was also WWE’s first PPV event in Puerto Rico or in the Latin America zone to serve that area’s fanbase.

Then, London, England will be hosting the next international event which is the 2023 edition of Money in the Bank on July 1.
