Heading into this week’s episode of Raw, a fresh Raw Women’s Championship match has been confirmed for WWE Backlash 2023. As noted on WWE’s Twitter account, IYO SKY from DAMAGE CTRL will finally challenge Bianca Belair for the red-brand Women’s Championship in Puerto Rico on Saturday, May 6.

As seen a few weeks ago on Raw, The “Genius of the Sky” earned her first maiden singles title match opportunity on the main roster against “The EST of WWE” by winning a Triple Threat match also featuring Mia Yim and Piper Niven. After the match, reports claimed that SKY will get her title shot at WWE Backlash 2023 which was eventually confirmed, last night.

Originally, DAMAGE CTRL leader Bayley was supposed to enter this match so that she could earn another chance at the title held by Belair. However, she was then confronted by stablemates SKY and Dakota Kai who insisted on one of them should get the opportunity instead of their leader since the self-proclaimed Role Model had lost every opportunity at Belair’s championship in the past.

Then Bayley agreed to talk to WWE official Adam Pearce, allowing SKY to join the match against “Michin” Mia Yim and Piper Niven to determine the new number-one contender at WWE Backlash 2023. The Japanese WWE Superstar went on to capture the in after connecting with her pendant moonsault finishing move on both of her opponents for the three-count. As noted, this fresh matchup will be SKY’s first shot at the singles women’s title where Bayley is likely to turn heel on her to initiate a new rivalry.
