WWE Backlash 2023: Bianca Belair had another successful title defense
At WWE Backlash 2023, Bianca Belair (c) defeated IYO SKY to retain the Raw Women’s Championship in the opening contest of the night. The PLE went down from Puerto Rico and the fans were chanting for IYO to end Bianca’s year-long title reign.
Belair went for her finishing move KOD at one point in the match, but IYO countered and sent her out of the ring. IYO then went for a Hurricanrana from the top rope, but Belair powerbomb-ed her. Bayley and Dakota Kai expectedly came out and tried to interfere.
Dakota hit Belair behind the referee’s back allowing IYO to set up for the moonsault. But IYO still missed the move as Belair hit the KOD for the pin to win at WWE Backlash 2023. With the Draft in full effect from this week on the WWE roster, Bianca will now enter the Smackdown brand as she was drafted to Smackdown during Night One of the Draft.
A month before WWE Backlash 2023, Belair also defeated Asuka to retain her Raw Women’s Title at Wrestlemania 39 which helped her to hold a 3-0 streak at the Show of Shows. Over the past couple of years, she had won the Smackdown and Raw Women’s Titles at the biggest stage in 2021 and 2022, consecutively.
