Two WWE Premium Live Events are scheduled to go down in May. The first one will be WWE Backlash 2023, this Saturday night in Puerto Rico followed by Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia on May 27. The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is not scheduled for this weekend’s show while the rest of The Bloodline will face Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Matt Riddle in a six-man tag team match.

To cover up the absence of the marquee attraction, WWE has booked celebrity Bad Bunny who is also Puerto Rico’s own. The Grammy award-winning artist will play a big role at WWE Backlash 2023 on his home turf of San Juan, Puerto Rico as the host of the event. However, he’s admittedly wanted to get relieved of those duties after being booked in a match.

As announced on Raw, a week ago, Judgment Day’s Damian Priest vs. Bad Bunny in a Street Fight was announced for WWE Backlash 2023. However, according to Fightful Select, that match wasn’t always the plan from WWE’s creative perspective. They originally wanted to insert Bunny into a tag team match.

A tag team match changed into Street Fight at WWE Backlash 2023

As noted by the source, the match at WWE Backlash 2023 was supposed to be Bad Bunny teaming with WWE Hall of Fame Rey Mysterio to face Priest and his fellow Judgment Day member, Dominik Mysterio. But then the plans reportedly changed, because both Bunny and WWE, agreed to the fact that Damian would share good in-ring chemistry due to their past history and will be able to deliver a “good singles match.”

“Bad Bunny vs. Damian Priest is set for Backlash, but wasn’t the original plan,” the source informed regarding WWE Backlash 2023.

“Fightful Select reported around WrestleMania that Bad Bunny was set to return and work towards a tag match with Rey Mysterio, taking on the Judgment Day duo of Damian Priest and Dominik Mysterio.Things were moving that directions and plans were headed that way, but the match was changed to a singles match.”

It was also noted that the original plans would have seen Bad Bunny pinning Dominik Mysterio at WWE Backlash 2023 to send the fans home, happily. However, plans changed in due course as they could now expect to witness a wild match under the No-DQ capacity. Current odds suggest that Bunny will eventually win this Street Fight against his former tag team partner, Priest.
