Waiting less than three weeks away in the calendar, WWE Backlash 2023 has now received three more matches on its card. Two title matches and one first-ever match from the Raw brand have been declared during the latest episode of Friday Night Smackdown.
As seen on the show, Legado del Fantasma manager Zelina Vega asked WWE Official Adam Pearce for an opportunity to the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WWE Backlash 2023 in Puerto Rico, that’s in her home country. This comes due to her ongoing feud with the reigning champion Rhea Ripley while Legado members alongside Rey Mysterio continue to feud with Ripley and Judgment Day members.

The title match was later confirmed on WWE’s official website as well as on social media accounts for WWE Backlash 2023 which was the first title match announced for the PLE. Back at Clash of Champions 2020, Zelina Vega competed in her first singles title match against Asuka. At the upcoming PLE, she will perform in the second-only singles title match of her career.

As for Rhea Ripley, Rhea Ripley, she won the Smackdown women’s title at Wrestlemania 39 by defeating Charlotte Flair. With that win, the 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble Match winner had become the first-ever true Grand Slam Champion in the women’s division history of WWE. At WWE Backlash 2023, she will go through the first title defense of her ongoing reign.
Speaking of title reigns, United States Champion Austin Theory will have to go through a huge task in hand when he puts his title on the line at WWE Backlash 2023 in a Triple Threat against Bronson Reed and Bobby Lashley. Theory last successfully defended his title against John Cena at Wrestlemania 39 which was the biggest win of his young career.
Plus, in a first-time-ever outing, Seth Rollins will compete against Omos at Backlash. This match has been confirmed without any kind of builds on WWE programming.
