This year, we saw a big trend in Bollywood to make films with wrestling topics. Salman Khan’s Sultan became the highest grossing movie of all-time in terms of box-office collection. Aamir Khan continued it with his recent release Dangal, inspired by Indian wrestler, Mahavir Phogat. The movie has already become a massive hit. Going by the latest reports, we might get another installment of the wrestling based film.
We all know The Great Khali is the biggest name when it comes to pro-wrestling in India. He is the only one who made it big in the pinnacle of sports entertainment i.e. the WWE by becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. So, what better way to pay homage to him by making a biopic on him? His life has all the ingredients that can be summed up in a film.
As per reports from mid-day.com, we will see a film based on the Great Khali in near future.
Born in the land of five rivers, Punjab Khali’s real name is Dalip Singh Rana. Before taking up pro-wrestling as his career, he used to work for Punjab police. Khali claimed his dominance in the WWE immediately after his debut. With a height of 7’1’’ and weight of 157 Kg, he was portrayed as a monster in the WWE.
In fact, he made his debut against the almighty Undertaker and defeated him in their first meeting. He then went on to capture the World Heavyweight Championship and had a full fledged rivalry with the Phenome afterwards.
Apart from the WWE, he also featured in a couple of Bollywood and Hollywood movie flicks including the popular reality TV show, Big Boss. After retiring from the WWE in 2014, he opened his own company named Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE) to spread WWE kind of wrestling more in India.
