One of the main events of the Clash of Champions PPV was the WWE Championship match between AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal. This match was declared almost a month ago of the show upon which the PPV was getting promoted. It was the rematch between these two bitter rivals on the Smackdown Live brand.
AJ Styles had a championship match against Jinder Mahal at Smackdown’s tour to the United Kingdom. At the Manchester edition of the show, the phenomenal one was able to dethrone the Modern-day Maharaja from his championship reign with his pendant fore-arm to become a two-time WWE Champion.

He was quick to hand the rematch to Jinder Mahal within two weeks of time. But, the India-billed champion decided to invoke the rematch clause at the Clash of Champions PPV that was hosted at the TD Gardens Arena in Boston, Massachusetts.

The match over-delivered to a big extent considering both the performers pulling out all the stops. There were multiple spots during the match. AJ Styles hit the phenomenal forearm on his opponent but failed to get the pinfall, as the Singh Brothers pulled him out of the ring.
Styles was furious and destroyed both of them at the ringside area. But, this distraction allowed Mahal to capitalise, as he went for a Super Khallas from the top rope. It was not successful, but eventually, the Maharaja was able to plant The Champion with the finishing move. However, to the shock of everyone, Styles kicked out.

The phenomenal one recovered while Mahal mocked him and went for a Styles Clash move. But, Styles countered with the Calf Crusher in the middle of the ring. The victim tried hard and almost reached the rope to break the pinfall when he was dragged back to the middle and tapped out.

By this win, it is predicted that AJ Styles will be able to close 2017 with the title in hand unless a rematch gets announced. The reigning champ closed the show by celebrating with the title in hand.
