The future of the Cruiserweight division was in serious jeopardy following a number of injuries in the recent past alongside some of the controversial incidents.

While the injuries have taken out multiple superstars en route to Wrestlemania, the controversial acts also sidelined a couple of former champions from the division.

Rich Swann was suspended whereas Enzo Amore was stripped of the title reign immediately leaving the division without a champion.

To overcome the problems, the WWE officials came up with the idea of crowning a new general manager for the show who will be officiating things from now onwards.

The brand new GM was introduced to the audience by the Smackdown general manager, Daniel Bryan.

The brand new signee in the WWE, Drake Maverick aka Rockstar Spud appeared on the screen with a new role.

In case, you don’t know, this man is a veteran pro-wrestler who was associated with the Impact Wrestling promotion. His contract came to an end, recently after which he left the company and made a deal with the biggest pro-wrestling promotion of the world.

After taking the charge of the show, the biggest problem he faced is that the show does not have any title-holder, right now. So, the situation was addressed by announcing a knock-out tournament.

The 16 superstars from the Cruiserweight Division will be participating in it over the next few weeks gunning for the title.

The two finalists will be competing at the grandest stage of them all in order to become the new champion.

Check out the updates from WWE.com, “After dedicating his life and career to Cruiserweight competition, Maverick announced his intention to help WWE 205 Live reach its true potential as the home for the most exciting competition in all of sports-entertainment. As a result, Maverick announced that a 16-man Cruiserweight Championship Tournament would begin immediately, and a new champion would be crowned on The Grandest Stage of Them All – WrestleMania.”

Two matches have already taken place from the tournament, this week. Cedric Alexander faced Gran Metallic in the first match with a win under his pocket.

Later in the night, TJP had a match against former UK Champion, Tyler Bate won it to advance to the second round, as well. The first round matches will continue over the next few weeks.
