WWE Day 1

WWE Day 1 match card is being stacked up as the company prepares to kick things off in 2022 in a big way. WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is all set to defend his belt against long-time rival Brock Lesnar at the upcoming PPV event. Now his cousins the SmackDown Tag Team Champions will also be defending at the inaugural pay-per-view event.

As per the announcement on this week’s SmackDown on FOX, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos will defend their straps against The New Day’s Kofi Kingston and King Xavier Woods at WWE Day 1. This will continue their rivalry that has been going on for years now.

WWE Day 1: New Title Match Announced For PPV On Smackdown 1

The feud was recently renewed as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have recently arrived on Smackdown following the WWE Draft 2021. The Usos have formed The Bloodline with Roman Reigns and entered the feud against The New Day members. The bygone Champion vs. Champion match between New Day’s Big E and Reign also helped in elevating the rivalry. Then Reigns speared his way to the victory.

As the feud continued, this week’s SmackDown saw Xavier Woods bring back Kofi Kingston before his singles match with Jey Uso. Kingston had been away for a few weeks to be with his wife as they welcomed their third child. However, his absence was displayed in a storyline way where he suffered an attack by The Usos a few weeks ago to suffer a torn MCL.

This week’s Woods vs. Uso match ended in a DQ. Woods went for a top rope elbow when Jimmy interfered from ringside and shoved him off the position. Kingston and Woods then attacked Jimmy until Jey pulled him to safety. Roman Reigns watched the segment from behind but he was concerned about Lesnar coming after his title, rather.

It was after this segment that this WWE Day 1 title match was confirmed on WWE’s official website as well as on the social media accounts of the company. Previously, these two have locked horns over the title in recent weeks but The Usos somehow retained.
