Dolph Ziggler was seen in action in the WWE at the Clash of Champions PPV in a triple threat match for the United States Championship. It was pleasant to see the veteran superstar picking up the title after a long time overcoming the resistance from Baron Corbin and Bobby Roode.
This was supposed to be a rejuvenation of this superstar with the title in hand. A strong title run was expected to lead to Wrestlemania 34.
However, he decided to leave the title rather than continuing his championship reign. On the very next episode of Smackdown Live following the PPV, the show-off announced that he is too good to perform in front of the fans present and left the title in the middle of the ring indicating that he is relinquishing it.
In order to crown a new champion, the Smackdown General Manager has announced a tournament that culminated in a recent edition of the show. On that night, the finale of the series was hosted where we got the man, Roode who replaced Ziggler on Smackdown Live as the champion.
Not exactly sure where this Dolph Ziggler US Title angle is going but one idea I’ve heard is to mirror the WrestleMania X ladder match dual belt storyline. A new US champ is crowned, Ziggler returns as “rightful” champ and both belts hang during ladder match. We shall see…

However, it is not likely that Ziggler’s storyline from the blue brand will be ending like this. Rather, some big planning is in-store when he finally returns to the show. According to the updates from Wrestlevotes Twitter page, the former champion will come back pledging that he is still the champion.
It is to be noted that he never confirmed that he is vacating the championship. So, the chances are high that he will show up with a new United States title in hand to challenge the newly crowned champion.
This will be a much similar to the storyline like CM Punk getting away from the company back in 2011 and then come back challenging John Cena for the undisputed championship.
Additionally, a ladder might also be planned, according to the reports from SportsKeeda.com:
“They’ve stated that one idea that is being discussed is to redo the Wrestlemania X ladder match dual belt storyline. If you remember that ladder match was between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon who were arguing over who was the ‘rightful’ Intercontinental Champion.”
For now, he has to wait for the comeback of the former world champion to get confirmed about the creative planning with it. But, with these speculations going around, it is certain that the officials are finally going in right direction with him.
