Evolution PPV main event drew a lot of backlash since the get-go. Fans did not like the idea that Nikki Bella got the opportunity to challenge Ronda Rousey for the WWE Raw women’s championship. As per them, Nikki Bella is a ‘so-called Diva’ who does not deserve a chance against the ‘baddest woman of the planet’.
However, WWE made this up by building a strong storyline around them. Nikki Bella turned heel by attacking Ronda Rousey on WWE Raw. She claimed to be the creator of Evolution where Ronda Rousey is just a spotlight-stealer. In return, the champion blasted her opponent for dating John Cena who has kicked her out of the bedroom.
These kinds of promos heated up the rivalry on WWE Raw. Nikki Bella took it further by slapping the taste out of Ronda Rousey’s mouth on this past edition of WWE Raw. So we expected a personal fight in the main event of Evolution. These two mainstream stars had the capability to execute a successful match despite the controversies.
They received decent receptions from the crow prior to the beginning of the match. Ronda Rousey started the match in her usual quick-fire notes to take early control. But Brie Bella was there to distract her allowing Nikki Bella to send Rousey face first into the steel ring post. The contender went for the cover but Rousey kicked out fast leading to brutal punishment.
Nikki Bella threw her opponent into the steel barricade to hurt the midsection. She applied an abdominal stretch submission hold wearing her down. Ronda Rousey looked to be in series trouble during this span of the match. Nikki tried for a baseball slide but Ronda moved out of the way. Nikki favored her neck immediately. She went on to deliver an over the shoulder move on Nikki Bella.
Brie interfered her and so Ronda grabbed her too into this putting both the Bella Twins onto the mat. Rousey gave some judo tosses and a slap to Nikki Bella. She tossed Brie Bella over the announce table. This distraction allowed Nikki to gain control hitting Rousey with an Alabama Slam followed by Rack Attack 2.0. But the champ stayed alive in the match and countered a middle rope move by her opponent.
She locked in the arm-bar in a terrific fashion leaving no choice for her opponent. Nikki Bella tapped out to let Ronda Rousey win the match. This was an auspicious moment to end Evolution where the roster members joined the WWE Raw women’s champion on the ramp. They celebrated to end the night together promising to take the women’s Evolution to the next level.
