Sports Illustrated broke the report of the introduction of WWE Capitol Wrestling Center. The formerly existing WWE Performance Center now consists of a newly remodeled TV set which will now be called with this new name. This name is a tribute to the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, founded by Jess McMahon in 1953 and run by Vincent J. McMahon.

“It’s a historic callback to where this all began,” Triple H said during a media call earlier this week and teased a “game-changing” look and feel for NXT TakeOver: 31. “We gutted the Performance Center and it’s now rebuilt, so it feels like we’re going back to the beginning. To me, it feels like we’re going back to 1953. Just like then, we’re doing something different and new, taking the business to a whole new level.”

“The Capitol Wrestling Center captures the feel and the vibe of NXT. We will have all the bells and whistles of the ThunderDome, but we’ll keep that NXT feel. It’s edgier, darker, and raw — you’re walking into the ultimate heavy metal soundstage.”

It was earlier noted by several wrestling media outlets that WWE was moving all that NXT tapings including TakeOver 31 from the NXT Arena on the campus of Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida to the WWE Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, Florida. RAW and SmackDown are now being produced at the Amway Center (WWE ThunderDome) that left the WWE PC free for NXT production.

The Capitol Wrestling Center came up with the virtual fans for the TakeOver show. There were also some fans in attendance with a limited capacity of around 100 people on the show. Triple H noted how there was talk of running NXT at the Thunderdome, but he wanted NXT to retain its own unique feel. Hence, the show was retained at the Capitol Wrestling Center coming out if the Full Sail facilities.

Wrestling Inc later provided an update saying that the move to the newly renovated Capitol Wrestling Center was a part of the recent renovation process as WWE wishes to bring back fans for live TV to return. Full Sail wasn’t going to allow fans whereas NXT wanted to proceed with minimum attendance.

This shift in the venue is being looked at as a “refresh” for NXT. A new set with LED boards and the return of fans in the form of some talents and their families was thus spotted. AEW continued to beat NXT in the ratings and the 18-49 demographic each week as NXT thought “fans” are what makes the programming unique.

Having a fresh start in a renovated building, with the new Capitol Wrestling Center set and live fans in attendance, NXT is being rejuvenated. It’s expected to give a tough competition to AEW on Wednesday nights.
