WWE India is to witness the next big event within a month from now in their home territory. WWE has a passionate fanbase in the country but they had to wait for more than five years to get a live show. However, recent updates claim that the WWE roster is visiting the country on January 18, and the audience will literally have to battle to book a ticket.
Serving the WWE India fanbase is one of the main reasons why this show is being hosted but it doesn’t seem that the company is really concerned about the size of the venue, like they have done in the recent past with stadium shows in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Saudi Arabia. It should also be reminded that all these shows were premium live events while the upcoming show is likely to be an untelevised house show.
WWE India: Triple H Responds To Subcontinent Fan’s Urge On Twitter
The entire Smackdown roster is expected to perform in this WWE India show which will be the first one in the country in five long years. That being said, the expectation was that a huge venue would be picked as the host but that’s not the case a small venue has been chosen to raise eyebrows among the fans.
The WWE India event will be held in Hyderabad, India at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium which is just a 5,000-seater venue that opened back in 2002. While the stadium facility is nice, WWE often wants to fill in a larger venue to entertain more fans which isn’t the case, this time around.
WWE India show could be an experiment related to TV tapings
Ringside News asked around about this notion of the WWE India show and why a stadium with 5,000 seats has been chosen. They were told by a tenured member of the internal WWE team that rather than selling out a bigger venue WWE-‘s choice to make this India trip had “a lot to do with television.” Nothing was specifically stated about whether they plan to start TV taping from the January show, itself.
With so many WWE fans out there, the company won’t have any problems selling out the 5,000-seat arena in Hyderabad. But they had their own reasons for opting for such a smaller venue as this venture is not just about selling a big house only.
It’s also been reported that this WWE India event should revolve around one of the homegrown superstars in Veer Mahaan. After months of vignettes, Mahaan made his Monday Night Raw debut on the post-WrestleMania 38 episode by attacking Rey and Dominik Mysterio. But currently, he’s residing on the NXT roster, teaming up with another Indian Sanga, thus forming the Indus Sher tag team.
