Recently, WWE came up with an announcement that a first-ever wrestling show will be streaming on Facebook that started from January 16th. Superstars from both Raw and Smackdown have been selected as they would team up to face another team in a tournament.
Interestingly, the winner will receive an amount of whopping US $100000 that will be used for charity purposes.
This was an effort from the WWE officials to come up with something new on the social media website. They have been trying to come up with programming on the tech giants like Facebook, Twitter or Amazon.
Finally, this tournament was declared and if this becomes a success then we might see yet more like this in the near future.
Now, the name Mixed Match Challenge comes from the traditional mixed tag team match where male-superstar teams up with a female superstar to take on against another such pair. This series too features such matchups exclusively on Facebook.
The roster to be involved was unveiled by the respective GMs, Daniel Bryan, and Kurt Angle.
Now, according to Ryan Satin of Pro-wrestling sheet, the original planning for this contest was quite different than it is now. Previously the company wanted to keep the focus on the women’s division which is why only female talents were supposed to feature in these contests that will be used to raise money for a generous cause.
All the female stars from Raw, Smackdown and NXT would be involved into this that will keep them under the spotlight. The reason was that the women superstars especially the NXT stars still do not get the needed focus. Steaming on Facebook under the biggest pro-wrestling promotion of the world would have handed them a big opportunity.
However, the planning was scrapped and we now have the Mixed Match Challenge which should be useful to garner attention from the crowd. These kinds of mixed tag matches have become extinct on WWE TV for quite sometimes now.
Hence, the fans should be glued to these. It is also being said that the streaming would be made available on WWE Network, as well at one point which means the regular subscribers will also get to watch it on the path-breaking TV platform.
