WWE News: A Women’s Royal Rumble Match is Being Planned for 2018 Edition
The Women’s Evolution featuring the elite female superstars of the WWE will be continuing with newer plans for the female roster. In the past summer, WWE gave us the first-ever global tournament on the WWE Network featuring women athletes around the world.
Going forward, the women’s division can expect something very special reserved for them.
According to the reports of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the WWE Creative is planning to host a first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match in 2018. The officials are in early talks to make it a fruition at the inaugural PPV of next year.
The concept, itself is something mind-boggling since we have never witnessed a match featuring the female superstars. But, considering that we are constantly witnessing new kind of matches for them, it is evident that at some point, it is bound to happen.
The flag-bearers of the Women’s Revolution like Becky Lynch, Charlotte and more talked about this grand match, previously. All of them wanted to be part of this match which will be yet another history made by them. Plus, it will bring the spotlight towards them, for sure.
We have arrived in such an era where Women main eventing Raw or Smackdown is now more considered to be a milestone since it has become a regular thing. During their bitter rivalry, Charlotte and Sasha Banks featured in the main event spot on numerous occasions including the first-ever Women’s Hell in a Cell match.
Steel Cage followed that tradition, Falls Count Anywhere, Tables, Gauntlet and the recently bygone Money in the Bank Ladder match. So, if such a Royal Rumble plan is under the radar of the creative, it would not be something strange for the fans.
Becky Lynch recently spoke to Amarillo Globe-News and stated the following about a Women’s Royal Rumble match in future:
“I think there’ll definitely be a time where the women get their own Royal Rumble. When you look at the fact that in July there is the Mae Young Classic taking place between 32 women. Then you have the women in NXT and the women on both brands. I think it’s a year or two away from having our own Royal Rumble, then maybe our tag titles. The sky is the limit.”
Considering this is a dual brand PPV, WWE would not have any problems while coming up with such a match that has never ever been held or thought, even. Both the women superstars from Raw and Smackdown would participate in it. Also, we have witnessed some NXT call-ups already to make the match happen.
