On June 10th of 2002, Stone Cold Steve Austin walked out of the WWE. The current year has marked the 15th year of that event. Considering that this man is perhaps the most famous man in the pro-wrestling circuit especially to the Attitude Era fans, they can easily find the incident to take place, just yesterday.
The fans always wanted to know what happened on that day that made the Texas Rattlesnake pi**ed off and left the flagship show. Bruce Prichard, one of the then creative heads in the WWE, took us back in the days of 2002 during his recent edition of the podcast. He elaborated how it felt when the franchise of the company decided to walk off all the staffs and officials.
Before you get to know Prichard’s comments, you should know that on a June episode of WWE Raw, the Creative team wanted to make a match between Stone Cold and Brock Lesnar. The latter one has just arrived on the scene, back then and was promoted as ‘the next big thing.’
So, the match might be proposed as to put over a new guy like Lesnar by pitting him against the cornerstone of the company. But, the talks between Austin and the show-writers turned out to be nasty, and Austin left the building immediately before the show going on air. Till date, we could not find out what exchange was made on that evening.
The moment was an unfortunate one for all the fans present in the arena alongside the superstars in the locker room including the staffs. Even after 15 years later, fans are equally curious about the happening on that day. Prichard discussed the situation of the locker room is stating:
“The Undertaker was pissed off. I think everybody was just pissed off and upset cause, you know. They felt like he walked out on them.”
“Brock had no idea of the proposed match or that he was supposed to go over Steve or anything. So, I don’t know if Brock had any reaction whatsoever because it never got to that point with him. They had pitched Steve, and Vince was still going back and forth with Steve at that point.”
It was the beginning of the end for Austin’s career in the WWE. It took almost one year for Vince McMahon to bring Stone Cold back on the television, again in 2003. However, he competed in his last match at that year’s Wrestlemania against The Rock.
