WWE News: AJ Styles Taken Off From Real In-Ring Contest Until December 26

We are almost over with 2016 and the year has given us multiple talents in the WWE. To honor those talents, the WWE arranges the Slammy awards every year. This year too should not be any exception but we are not assured of this year’s Slammy, till date. However, that does not stop the internet buzzing from who should be the superstar of the year.

Giving a spoiler of who is going to it, whatculture.com said AJ Styles is going to be the winner of the award. After having a phenomenal debut at the Royal Rumble event in 2016, he has been a prime superstar on both Raw & Smackdown even before the WWE draft.

After the brand extension, AJ Styles has been the top guy on the blue brand. At Backlash, he picked up the WWE championship against Dean Ambrose. In almost every PPV of the year, he has given top notch matches with stars like John Cena, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns or Chris Jericho.

His last PPV match at the TLC was a brutal one by all means which sidelined him for a couple of weeks from real in-ring action. (Except for last night’s one-sided match against Ellsworth in which he was not supposed to get any beating) Furthermore, the WWE has extended his hiatus from the ring for some more time. As per reports from wrestleINC.com, his presence from all the Smackdown house shows has been canceled until December 26.

On that night, we will see him in a triple threat match against Dean Ambrose and the returning John Cena. The event will be a special house show from the Madison Square Garden arena. The next night will see him in another championship match against Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin on Smackdown.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter claimed Styles’ injury is not serious. He picked up the injury while performing the splash from the top rope on Ambrose through the table. Styles said the following regarding his minor injury on Talking Smack:

“Health-wise I’m ready to rock, I was ready to go with Ellsworth tonight and then he got sick, I’m ready to go… listen, I can go.”
