Paige had made a big announcement before last week’s Smackdown went off the air, for the WWE title. We were eager to know about the next title defence of AJ Styles at Summerslam.

There was no number one contender available for the WWE Championship following Extreme Rules. There was no progress in storyline either on the July 17th edition.

Previously, AJ Styles had a short feud against Rusev that culminated at Extreme Rules. He was able to win this contest via submission to retain the championship. It hinted a new title matchup for him at Summerslam. The question remained who the new opponent for the champion would be.

The rumours were running rampant about one particular name from the Smackdown roster. Spoilers were out about Samoa Joe becoming the new challenger setting up a dream match for the fans. Several previous advertisements for Summerslam revealed the title match between Joe and Styles.

So the anticipation was much bigger, as Smackdown aired last night. The announcement started in an exciting way when AJ Styles signed it without even knowing his opponent. James Ellsworth showed up, as Paige was going to make the announcement. He brought out the reference from two years ago where he defeated Styles three times in a row.

So the ‘chinless wonder’ did believe he deserved a championship opportunity. His actions became relentless at one point forcing Paige to fire him on the spot. Ellsworth was not willing to leave Smackdown leading the GM to call out the securities from the back. A shenanigan began outside the ring that the crowd was enjoying.

Meanwhile, AJ Styles as alone inside the ring. Samoa Joe came from nowhere to attack the champion from the back. He locked in the Coquina Clutch on him and choked him right away. Furthermore, Samoa took the contract and signed on the challenger’s position. It confirmed the Summerslam championship match between these two.

Paige might have had another name in mind when she went to announce the next challenger for AJ Styles. But she can’t do anything about it since both Styles and Joe put their signs on the WWE Championship contract. So, the dream match is now set to take place at the biggest event of the summer. We hope to see a solid feud between these veteran names who delivered some memorable matches back in their days from TNA wrestling promotion.
