WWE News: Alberto Del Rio leaving WWE after suspension to join MMA
As per the earlier reports, Alberto Del Rio has a certain clause in his contract which would allow him to leave in the month of September. Once the suspension gets lifted he might use it and bids adieu to the company. Or, if the superstar comes up with the clause in between his suspension days, we have already seen Del Rio’s last in the WWE.
The latest report suggests that Del Rio has already made up his mind and probably headed for the second option as mentioned above. The veteran wrestling journalist, Dave Meltzer mentioned in his latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that Del Rio has been removed from the upcoming WWE live events which are dated even after the suspension gets lifted. This indicates only one thing that is Del Rio has already chosen to walk out of the biggest wrestling promotion in the world, once again.
Del Rio and his girlfriend, Paige both were suspended from WWE on the same day in August. They were banned from WWE for 30 days for the company’s Wellness Policy Violation. No concrete reason for the suspension is yet to be found.
There are certain options available for Mexico’s Greatest Export, once he leaves the company. The priority should be for TNA which is the greatest rival of WWE. It’s now under the ownership of Billy Corgan since the former President Dixie Carter chose to walk out from the company. The Lucha Underground, where he spent the time since the time he was gone from WWE, is always ready to work with him. WWE alumni like John Morrison and Rey Mysterio works for the same promotion.
But, Del Rio is really interested in the Combate Americas MMA promotion after he and his girlfriend, Paige attended one of their events, recently. The Mexican aristocrat is supposedly looking for a change and hence interested in shifting gear from pro-wrestling to mixed martial arts. If he does will to do so, then he will be the one to follow the likes of Brock Lesnar or CM Punk who is under UFC contract. Punk will debut at the UFC 203 event after leaving WWE two and a half year ago.
