WWE News: Asuka Relinquishes her NXT Championship, Officially

The speculations were there of Asuka possibly ending her championship reign after suffering an injury during the NXT Takeover event, last week.

She featured in a title match against Ember Moon which turned out to be the shoe-stealer of the night. But, Asuka’s collarbone was damaged to a severe extent by a nasty throw from her opponent.

Being a fighting champion, she was able to finish the title match but was in pain. The WWE medical personnel addressed her condition once the contest was over and declared that due to the concussions suffered in the match, she would not be able to perform for a particular time span. It raised questions about Asuka’s never ending title reign that has crossed 500-day landmark.

In the latest WWE NXT tapings at the Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida, Asuka appeared in front of the crowd to officially relinquish the NXT Women’s Championship and thereby ending all the speculations. The taping is yet to be televised but WWE took their official website to let us know that she is no more in possession of the title. Check out the below statements from WWE.com,

“NXT Women’s Champion Asuka relinquished her title to NXT General Manager William Regal tonight at Full Sail University in Orlando, Fla. After her dominant performance and historic 500-plus day reign as NXT Women’s Champion, The Empress of Tomorrow looks to her future for new opportunities in WWE, though no specific details are known at this time. Her reign will officially end on the date that her historic announcement airs.”

The entire NXT female locker room came out to bid her a farewell as this also marked the final moments in the NXT developmental territory. Triple H and the NXT general manager, William Regal was also present at that moment. The latter one has already started negotiating to send Asuka on either Raw or Smackdown.

At this point, no time span was revealed that would heal up Asuka’s injury. But, it is likely that she will have to be sidelined for at least two or more months. Upon her return, she will be included on the main roster of the WWE.
