Asuka was absent from Smackdown after a one-off appearance, last week. But the good news is that she received a match at Fastlane. This will be the second time only that the reigning champion will get to defend her title against. He challenger from Smackdown is going to be the Golden Goddess aka Mandy Rose. This is going to be a fresh match from the blue brand on March 10th PPV card.
WWE Championship match changed for Fastlane
In case you don’t remember, it was last week that Mandy Rose challenged Asuka for a match on Smackdown. With the help of some mean streak, she was able to pick up the big win against the champion. This pinfall win earned her the opportunity to get her first one-on-one title opportunity in a pay-per-view match card. Here’s more on the match from WWE.com,
“Mandy Rose will get the opportunity to prove that the spotlight should always be on her when she challenges SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka at WWE Fastlane.
In a WWE.com Exclusive interview announcing the match, The Golden Goddess boldly claimed that after their match, Asuka wasn’t ready for Mandy Rose. Will that be the case when the two clash for the SmackDown Women’s Championship? Find out at WWE Fastlane, Sunday, March 10, at 7 ET/4 PT, streaming live on the award-winning WWE Network!”
Huge Wrestlemania title rematch took place on Smackdown
Asuka has not been proven to be a dominant Smackdown women’s champion. She barely got the chance from a storyline perspective to showcase her talents. There’s no denying in her ability which is why the officials kept the championship around her waist. At Royal Rumble, she defeated Becky Lynch to retain her title.
We should remind you that Asuka won that match in a clean way. She defeated the most popular superstar of this current era forcing her to tap out. It was indeed an incredible experience for the one who won her maiden title on the main roster, last month. She came up victorious against Charlotte and Becky Lynch by climbing up the ladder.
Doubters complained that Asuka never pinned or submitted the former Smackdown women’s champions to win the title. But she must have shut them up with a clean victory at Royal Rumble. Becky Lynch was out of the title picture, for now, courtesy of her Rumble win. So Mandy Rose filled up the spot on the show for now.
