WWE News: Backstage Update on Bobby Roode’s Future on Smackdown Live
Aug 29, 2017 at 1:02 PM
Bobby Roode moving to WWE Smackdown Live was quite an expected one. It was up in the rumour mill for quite a while since he had a championship run with the NXT title and it was a perfect time to drop it and enter the main roster. Smackdown did need a heel superstar like him who can make the brand into a ‘glorious’ place.
So, we witnessed him making a big debut on this past week’s Smackdown Live. Before the night, he defended his NXT championship against Drew McIntyre at the NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III event during the Summerslam weekend. Drew became the champion and the face of the brand from now onwards who will be starting a rivalry with Adam Cole.
So, there was nothing much left for Bobby Roode in the NXT brand. Hence, he was shifted to the blue brand where his debut match was contested against Aiden English. It is needless to say that he won it, dominantly and then cut a promo vowing to make Smackdown Live, ‘glorious’.
Cagesideseats.com has some updates regarding his main roster career. According to them, although, Roode is an active member of the blue brand, he will not be leaving NXT, completely. “The Glorious One” is booked in a number of NXT shows in the near future and will reportedly be performing on all of them until the dates get finished. Plus, these tours might be named as Roode’s farewell tour for the NXT brand.
The source also hinted that although Roode used to act as a heel superstar on NXT, he might turn into a babyface while performing on Smackdown. It is needless to say that the crowd welcomed him on Smackdown giving a standing ovation and this might be an indication of his character change.
However, going in opposite to these reports, Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that Bobby Roode is going to be the replacement for Baron Corbin on Smackdown. It means that he will continue to be a heel on the roster.
The Lone Wolf is dealing with major backstage heats, right now. So, we can’t expect to get into the championship picture. In fact, he might just get buried by the creative shortly by digesting some more losses. It is where Roode will come handy who can play the role of a villain with a mean streak.
