WWE News: Backstage Updates on Daniel Bryan's Wrestlemania 34 Match 1

Daniel Bryan would be back to the place that he turned into YES-O-Mania, four years ago.

It’s hard to believe how time flies within a couple of week time. We could not imagine him competing inside a ring, even a while ago. But, he did the unthinkable by getting medically cleared. After getting clean-chits from the renowned concussion specialists, the WWE doctors had no choice but to clear him, as well.

So, the Smackdown general manager was inserted into a storyline, right away to set up a Wrestlemania match for him. Shane McMahon would team up with Daniel Bryan to take on the heel team of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn at the biggest event of them all.

If the latter team ends up losing, then they will be fired from the Smackdown Live brand.

In a report from wrestlingnews.co, it got revealed the original planning of this match was much different. The plans were quite different as the officials indeed thought about splitting the bond between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn causing a match, Shane McMahon was out of the blueprint of Wrestlemania.

The main issue with this tag team match was that Daniel Bryan was trying to get cleared for a long time. The final sanction regarding this matter was yet to arrive even days before the official announcement actually came. Hence, a couple of alternative matches were kept in reserve, as per the source,

“Another backup plan was for McMahon to get a different partner and face Owens and Zayn. Another backup plan was for a three-way match with Bryan as the special referee. If Bryan was not cleared, then he could be a factor in the finish of the match, but he would not have been allowed to take any bumps.”

Going forward, the original plan was that WWE head doctor, Dr. Joseph Maroon would test Daniel Bryan on March 27. This was considered to be the last and final test for the former WWE Champion to ever wrestle in the WWE. If he had to remain non-cleared, then he could start planning for his run on the independent scene or promotions like Ring of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Most probably, Vince McMahon decided to prepone that schedule to set up a match from the Smackdown brand. So, Daniel Bryan was flown back to Pittsburgh from Abu Dhabi where he was on a promotional spree for WWE. After going through it, the good news was given. Check out the aftermath reactions once this happened via wrestlingnews.co,

“Bryan had tears in his eyes when Maroon told him that he was cleared. Word then spread backstage at Raw, but nothing was made official until Tuesday afternoon, just hours before Smackdown Live. WWE made sure to get the word out ahead of the live broadcast, and there were things that had to be rewritten to accommodate the big news.”
