Oct 10, 2017 at 5:30 PM
Smackdown has picked up some major momentums with a successful Hell in a Cell PPV on this past Sunday. So, they are willing to carry it forward in the upcoming weeks. The last dual brand PPV of the year, Survivor Series will be the next stop for them where a rivalry between two brands is supposed to be reignited.
Heading into tonight’s episode, we are expecting to see another championship match. The creative team has started to play hot potato with the championships present in the brand for quite sometimes to keep the attention on the programming. As part of it, we have seen two titles changing hands at the Hell in a Cell PPV.
One of them was the United States title which was won by Baron Corbin. The former champion, AJ Styles invoked his rematch clause right after the PPV was over. During the Talking Smack show on the WWE Network, he demanded the rematch, and it was confirmed to headline tonight’s episode from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Initially, the match on this past Sunday Night was supposed to be a singles bout between AJ Styles and Baron Corbin. But, since Tye Dillinger pulled off a win over Baron, last Tuesday night, he pledged to get included into this match on a fallout video. It gave the creative team to make the match a triple threat one for the PPV night.

So, Dillinger got inserted into his first PPV Championship match after coming to the main roster. While this was quite exciting for the young superstar, the decision backfired AJ Styles’ planning, for sure. It ensured that he neither has to be pinned or submitted to lose the championship.
That’s what exactly happened in the PPV match. The Phenomenal One had Dillinger down with the forearm off the top rope. But, Corbin came from behind and shoved him off the ring to get the pinfall win and win his first singles championship on the main roster.

The rivalry between Corbin and Styles has been ongoing for quite some time now. But, we have not seen any televised match between them, to date. So, tonight should mark the first singles contest between them over the United States Championship.
