Finn Balor lost the Intercontinental Championship to Shinsuke Nakamura during the Extreme Rules Kickoff show. It was an impromptu matchup for the title after Shinsuke Nakamura pinned Finn Balor on last week’s Smackdown. Surprisingly, he was able to do it once again, this time for the Intercontinental Championship.

WWE.com continued to put over Nakamura for his title win whereas speculations started brewing about Finn’s WWE career,

“The Irishman ascended the top rope to attempt a Coup de Grâce the second he connected with his running dropkick, but Nakamura had more than enough left in the tank to dodge the maneuver. A pair of Kinshasas — one to the back of Bálor’s head and one straight to the face as he staggered to his feet — sealed the victorious effort, the return to form, and a new championship reign. Shinsuke Nakamura may have never left, per se, but it’s safe to say he’s back.”

While Nakamura is looking forward to having a match against Ali at Summerslam, Finn Balor’s future looks uncertain. The last time we saw him was on WWE Raw where a returning Bray Wyatt attacked him, out of nowhere.

This was perhaps a hint that WWE is pulling off Finn Balor from TV. Additionally, he himself posted a bye, bye message on his Twitter account to indicate that he might be leaving the business. However, it’s not true as per reports from Pro Wrestling Sheet as the former champ has requested for time-off and WWE has granted him so on one condition.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that WWE management agreed to the hiatus wanted by Finn Balor after he agreed to do a match at Summerslam. He would face the returning Wyatt at the upcoming PPV to put him over with a huge victory. Then only he could go on a hiatus that may span more than two months which means he is not coming back until fall of 2019 begins.

Pro-wrestling Sheet added that Finn Balor will appear on WWE TV until Summerslam 2019. Afterward, he is going to be absent from TV and likely missing Clash of Champions in September. This time-off is also the same reason why WWE has taken the IC title away from him at Extreme Rules. Rumors also have it that after coming back, he may join The Club faction on WWE Monday Night Raw.
