WWE News: Brock Lesnar To Get A New Opponent For The Great Balls Of Fire PPV
May 24, 2023 at 12:07 PM
Brock Lesnar has won the Universal championship at Wrestlemania 33 by defeating Goldberg. This was the last match of their rivalry where he hit his opponent with 10 German Suplexes to finally pin him with a couple of F-5s in the middle of the ring.
Now, quite expectedly, he was not expected to show up every night on Monday Night Raw from that point onwards. His contract with the WWE will not allow him to do so. The deal lets him do some handful of dates in the entire year.
If those scheduled dates get extended for some reasons then Vince McMahon has to write some extra paychecks of a heavy amount for Brock Lesnar. The company might not be willing to spend this additional money for the beast incarnate considering that this is the last year of his WWE stint.
Previously, he was expected to feature in his first Universal title defence at the Extreme Rules PPV. The schedule got changed after he was advertised for the inaugural Great Balls of Fire PPV in July. Braun Strowman was supposed to be his opponent at the PPV.
But, plans might just get drastically changed again following Braun Strowman’s injury that he suffered this past week on WWE Raw. The news was first broken by Pro-Wrestling Sheet. Later, Cagesideseats.com confirmed it saying that the injury is legit.
Following the update, it was revealed that Strowman will be undergoing an elbow surgery which will sideline him for 4 to 8 weeks. It means he will not feature in the Extreme Rules PPV against Roman Reigns.
Furthermore, he was supposed to win this match to become the number one contender for the Universal title. With the previous match being cancelled, there’s no way he can compete against Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire PPV now.
So, the WWE creative has got no choice but to find a new opponent for Paul Heyman’s client in July. This might have given a major headache to the WWE writers. They were about to give the monster among men a championship push which got squatted, all of a sudden.
We have to wait till the next episode of Raw to witness at which direction, WWE creative would be heading towards.
