If the earlier reports were any indications, then no championships were supposed to change hands before the Survivor Series PPV.
It meant that all the announced lineups would have been retained for the last dual brand PPV of the year 2017. However, recent night’s Raw made a big-time change on the match card of the event, as the main event witnessed a sudden title change.
Sheamus and Cesaro were lobbying for a tag team title match on WWE Raw during a backstage segment on the show. They were telling the Raw general manager, Kurt Angle, as of why they should get a chance to capture the title, once more.
It is to be noted that the rivalry between the Bar, i.e. Sheamus-Cesaro and the two-third members of the Shield, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins is going on for a long time. It was before the Summerslam PPV when the former brethren got on the same page and earned the right to face the then champions, The Bar.
The stretched feud continued for a better part of the summer, as Sheamus-Cesaro failed to regain the title. So, Kurt Angle was not willing to hand the heel duo another opportunity. But, when it comes to a power-packed main event, he can’t let the spectators down. Hence, he made the championship match official.
While The Shield was in firm control of the match, The New Day popped out in the arena, out of nowhere announcing another siege on Raw. It distracted the reigning champions, as the Raw roster came out to prohibit the invaders. But, the distraction was enough for the challengers to capitalise.
Sheamus connected with his pendant move, Brogue Kick on Rollins to put him down and get the pinfall. By this win, they became the three-time tag team champions. Also, the lineup for Survivor Series will now be The Usos going on against The Bar, as confirmed on WWE.com,
“They say that anything can happen in WWE, and Cesaro & Sheamus just proved that old chestnut right. Thanks to a surprise appearance by The New Day that threw Raw into chaos, the two-man wrecking crew commonly known as “The Bar” dethroned Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins as Raw Tag Team Champions, thereby swapping themselves in for The Shield in the epic Champion vs. Champion bout against SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos on Sunday, Nov. 19, at Survivor Series.”
