WWE News: Charlotte Successfully Defended Smackdown Women’s Championship Against Carmella 1

Smackdown hyped up this week’s edition announcing a women’s championship match. Charlotte Flair won it for the seventh occasion from Carmella at the Summerslam PPV. She hit a Natural Selection on Becky Lynch to get the pinfall win. This made the title picture quite interesting as the latter one turned into a heel, thereafter.

This started a feud on Smackdown between the two best friends. So Carmella could not have asked for a rematch in a better time. She knew that Charlotte Flair will have to deal with Becky Lynch. The inaugural women’s champion of the blue brand will definitely try to cost Charlotte Flair the title. It would increase chances of Carmella winning the title back.

Paige made her task easier since she did not deny to sanction the match on Smackdown. In fact, the GM was the one to confirm this championship match on this episode of Toronto. We expected that the Becky Lynch factor would come into play in the match at some point. But Charlotte was not the one to drop the title at the earliest.

So the match took place on Smackdown Live on a good storyline perspective. Charlotte cut a furious promo before the match happens, blaming Becky Lynch for not winning the big things. She does not deserve any further chance for the championship. Furthermore, Charlotte does not owe an apology to her former best friend.

Carmella had the upper-hand for the most part of the matchup on Smackdown. She sent Charlotte straight into the barricade to dominate the contest. A kick to the face following with a cross-body on put the champion down. Charlotte wanted to reverse it for a pinfall but Carmella caught her with flat-liner.

Carmella also slapped the champ for multiple occasions before delivering two super-kicks. But the resilient champion managed to kick out of it making the challenger frustrated. This is where Charlotte capitalized hitting a spear. Thereafter, a Natural Selection and a Figure-Eight Lock helped her to retain the championship.

Her celebration did not long last though since Becky Lynch arrived on the scene. She delivered an attack from the back on Charlotte Flair until she was down. Becky announced that she is coming after this title at the Hell in a Cell PPV event. This championship match should be official in due course between these two former best friends for the PPV event.
