Cody Rhodes’ real name is Cody Runnels. He is the son of the legendary Dusty ‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes and brother of another veteran Goldust aka Dustin Rhodes. Since the beginning of his career, he had all the tools to be a great wrestler.
The start was great for him under the wings of veteran Randy Orton as part of the faction, The Legacy. He made it big by winning the Intercontinental Championship and the Tag team championship for multiple times. But things started to get rough from 2014 onwards.
WWE tried to give his character a twist by bringing in the Stardust character but it turned out to be a disaster. It forced him to get out of the company, last year. His wife Brandi Rhodes aka WWE announcer Eden Stills followed his steps, as well.
Ever since leaving the company, Cody found out the extra motivation that he needed for sometimes. He got under contract with several promotions like the Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor, NJPW (New Japan Pro-wrestling) etc.
He joined the iconic faction, The Bullet Club in ROH which kept his career ongoing upwards. Plus, he picked up the American Nightmare gimmick which rejuvenated his character to a great extent. With the success continuing, he commented on his present life during an interview with Double G Sports.
Cody Rhodes pointed out that people are liking what he is doing on the indie scenes by stating:
“I think there are fewer haters than before. We did start off a little rocky though. It could have started with the Evolve audience—I believe I’ve shown people that there is a lot left in the tool box and gas left in the tank.”
He also praised WWE veteran Kane for his work ethics in the WWE. These were his comments on the Big Red Machine:
“I kind of model my attitude backstage and towards the business after Kane. He’s running for mayor now. He is the best example of how to be an older gentleman, a veteran in our business. Everybody after two-four years goes through that phase where they think they are a veteran. After about six years in you start to think you’re really a veteran, and then you realize that it never ends.”
He also stated that WWE did not give him the opportunity that he deserved. This is why he is successful in the independent scene, today.
