WWE News: Company Files Paperwork To Get The Hardy Boyz Trademark
Back at the beginning of this millennium, the team of Matt and Jeff Hardy alongside Lita took the WWE by storm. They were known by the name of Team Extreme and extremely popular for their high-flying moves. With names like the Dudley Boyz, Edge & Christian by their side, it was a revolution going on in the tag team division.
The team extreme gimmick came to an end with Matt and Jeff both starting to perform individually. Their singles stint remained until 2010 after which both the Hardy Boyz left the company.
They became a valuable asset to the TNA Impact Wrestling Promotion. Both were treated as main event superstars there to build their legacies. Last year marked the beginning of a certain change in persona with the ‘Broken’ gimmick applied to them.
This storyline helped to reinvent the tag team division on the promotion. Also, the popularity of the Hardy Boyz became even bigger day by day. Unfortunately, TNA was bought by a new company, Anthem Sports who did not allow the Hardyz to remain in their character’s creative control starting a major rift.
This was the primary reason why Hardys left the company, last month and came back to WWE. The fans, this time were anxious to see the ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy and his Brother, Nero. But, they were back with the older gimmick of Team Extreme since Impact Wrestling did not allow them to use it outside their promotion.
It was speculated that WWE might not be willing to go into a conflict with Impact owners for the Hardyz trademark. That’s turned out to be true since now the world’s biggest wrestling promotion has applied to get the Hardy Boyz trademark. If they become successful in acquiring this one then they would be the one to sell exclusive merchandise around the gimmick.
Anthem Sports has been sending legal threats to the Hardy Boyz to bar them from using it, permanently. They even use the TM sign on the videos of Hardyz on their official Youtube channel. So, WWE chose to play it in a rather safe way by not taking any chance to go in a legal war between these two promotions. More details regarding this matter are said to be unveiled in near future.
