It was speculated that the match between Jinder Mahal and Shinsuke Nakamura at Summerslam would not be the last between them. Rather, it was just the beginning of a full-fledged feud between these two. Before the biggest part of the summer, they barely got the chance to build up the rivalry which is why the crowd was not much invested in the match.
This match is a clear intention of the creative to make this rivalry as fresh as they could so that another PPV main event can be conducted. So, quite expectedly, the interference from The Singh Brothers helped Jinder to retain his title, quite quickly. It was evident that Nakamura would go after the champion, for sure once the Summerslam PPV gets over.
So, the feud resumed from the post-Summerslam episode of Smackdown where The Artist sought his redemption on the Modern-Day Maharaja by laying him down with a Kinshasa. With the rivalry just heating up we can now say that the WWE Championship to be on the line at the next brand-exclusive PPV from Smackdown.
According to the reports of Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, these two will main-event the Hell in a Cell PPV event. In case you don’t know, the demonic structure will be back in the WWE on the 8th of October. Smackdown will host this PPV, this year. Since Jinder is the WWE Champion, it is likely that he will close the show by competing against Nakamura inside the unforgiving steel structure.
However, it is to be noted that another feud is going on between Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon for a few weeks now, the reason behind this is to culminate a PPV match between these two. Considering Shane-O-Mac’s career, we can certainly expect him to witness competing in an event inside the structure.
Previously, The Dirty Sheets Podcast reported that this match would be the main event of Hell in a Cell show rather than the title match. It means this match will also close the show going last on the match card. We will learn in due course how things shape up for the next Smackdown-exclusive PPV.
Whatever the scenario turns out to be, the audience will be the ultimate winners. Both of these matches are money matches and will help to make the PPV a sell-out.
