Daniel Bryan returned to Smackdown Live after almost a hiatus of two months. He was out of the show because of the birth of his first child following the Wrestlemania season. He and Brie Bella became proud parents of the girl child named, Birdie Joe Danielson.
Now, this return means that he will be in charge of the show from now onwards and Shane McMahon would be given fewer duties. Ever since Wrestlemania, the commissioner has been so busy with Smackdown. It is also to be noted that he featured in the match card of the biggest stage, as well against AJ Styles.
But, that does not mean that Daniel Bryan is going to remain General Manager for a long time. It was earlier reported that his contract with the WWE will be over in 2018. He has told numerous times since he is willing to wrestle outside the company, he might not renew the contract.
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, he revealed another spoiler regarding his future. He stated that he has been training secretly to get back to his commitment to returning to in-ring action, once again.
In case you don’t know, the doctors have cleared him to compete in a WWE ring. However, it was the Vince McMahon and the medical staffs of the WWE who did not let him come back. In the process, he was forced to officially retire in February 2016.
Ever since that happened, promotions in Japan where he used to perform in earlier days contacted him to go back there. However, his contract with the WWE was intact till 2018 and he can’t go before that. It is supposed to expire in the spring time after which he hinted to go on board in another promotion.
Also, in the same interview, he spoke about CM Punk who was also forced to quit the WWE, at one point. Back in 2012, these two had a great rivalry which also featured AJ Lee. All of their matches were great at that point and one of them was also nominated for the Slammy awards, as well.
Daniel Bryan revealed the final conversation that he had with the Straight Edge leader stating:
“I haven’t talked to Punk since I texted him when he came on the UFC show in a suit and said he was going to fight in the UFC,” said Bryan. The leader of the Yes Movement further added, “I just texted him and said, ‘Hey man, I just saw that and think it’s awesome. I hope you do great’. Punk texted back, ‘Thanks’. That’s the last I’ve heard from him.”
