The Smackdown roster was lacking depth, a big time during the end of 2016. The franchise player, John Cena was missing for a long time until the last week of December. His absence was the sole reason that Dean Ambrose-AJ Styles championship feud was stretched for a long time. 2016 is over and now the WWE is planning something big to come up with a variation on the main event card.
Previously during the WWE Draft, WWE Raw picked up Finn Balor from NXT to make him one of the top guys on the Raw roster. The process saw a big obstacle since Balor got injured at Summerslam but he’ll be back soon and continue his role as a strong babyface. Now perhaps is the time when Smackdown picks up one or two big names from the NXT roster en route to Wrestlemania.
Daniel Bryan spoke up regarding this in his appearance at a recent event in New York City.
He talked about various incidents like upcoming fatherhood, bringing on new talents from NXT and coming back to in-ring competition. He said the current NXT champion Shinsuke Nakamura and his arch-rival Samoa Joe will be his target to sign on the blue brand. He also mentioned names like Bobby Roode and the NXT Women’s champion Asuka on his list.
His comments were as follows when he was asked about whom he would like to sign from the NXT roster:
“That’s really, really tough. I would love to have Nakamura, just because I roomed with him for a short time. I’ve known him for a long time. And Samoa Joe, because I’ve known him for a long time too. There are so many great people down there. The women’s champion Asuka is really good. I love Austin Aries. Bobby Roode’s really good.”
He admitted the fact that he misses wrestling so much. If given a chance, he would love to have one more match against either against Nakamura or Joe if the WWE allows him. His list also consists names of Kevin Owens, Cesaro, and Sami Zayn.
