WWE hosted a Cruiserweight Classic tournament on the WWE Network around last year’s summer. It turned out to be a huge success for the path breaking network invented by the WWE. This also led the company to announce some bigger events coming to the network, soon.
The Executive Vice-president of the talent relationship, Triple H confirmed that a similar tournament will be held from the women’s division. WWE previously held a press conference prior to Wrestlemania to officially announce the tournament. The details of the same were not disclosed, until now.
PWInsider.com reported that the show will be arranged in taped format. The tapings will take place on July 13th and 14th. The Full Sail University which is the home for NXT will be the host to it.
In contrast to the Cruiserweight classic, last year, it will not be aired on WWE Network on the weekly basis. Rather, it is supposed to release, at once following the tapings. Also, the source revealed that the finale of the tournament will take place in a live event. The episode is going to be a WWE Network exclusive live event. Most probably, August 29th is going to be the exact date when we will crown the champion of the tournament.
As of now, it is set that a total number of 32 women will be competing for making their mark in the biggest pro-wrestling promotion in the world. WWE intends to bring some well-known athletes from the independent scenes. Names like Mia Yim, Candice LeRae are said to be a part of the show.
Also, competitors around the globe will be able to participate in the tournament. To find out younger talents, WWE has organised some tryouts in different cities around the world. The content release will also be very interesting since WWE has never brought out all the show tapings at once. If this turns out to be a success then we can certainly expect more such series coming on the platform.
Veteran commentator Jim Ross is being contacted by the company to call out the show. It is going to be additional interest for the viewers for the show which is said to be a bigger one in comparison to last year’s show or the United Kingdom tournament, earlier this year.
