Former world champion, Jack Swagger had a decade long career in the WWE starting from 2006. Back in that year, he signed with the WWE to start from the bottom. Gradually, he emerged as one of the most physical competitors present in the company.
He started his presence felt on the main roster by winning the ECW championship before it got extinct. Later, he was brought into the main event picture by winning the Money in the Bank briefcase win. He won in big time at Wrestlemania 26 in 2010.
With this in hand, he became the world champion and then followed it up with the United States championship win. However, his success did not last for a long time as he gradually faded away in the gathering of the emerging talents from NXT.
This forced him to quit the biggest pro-wrestling promotion of the world, earlier this year. In an interview with Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling, he opened up on what made him felt uncomfortable while staying in the WWE.
He mentioned that his mentor Zeb Colter was taken away from him who was the main reason behind rejuvenating his career. Also, he did not spot any bright side of the brand split that took place, last year urging to negotiate the deal between him and the WWE. Check out his comments here:
“After ten years with the company, I needed a change and like I said earlier I need to journey out and become the best professional wrestler I can but also I needed a change to make them miss me and want me back. I need to make them want me and the main thing is they were not growing my brand anymore.”
According to Swagger, WWE wanted to retain him for five more years renewing the contract. But, he felt that his brand is not getting bigger and so decided to leave. This is what he had to say on WWE’s point of view:
“Bottom line. It happens and you can get angry about it but it is all business and it is all dollars. I was angry for a long time but once this all came down and I looked at it as a business decision so I understood their side, understood my side and we left on good terms and it is just something we had to do.”
For now, he is happy by performing on the independent circuit. Considering his increasing age and the fresh talents that WWE is getting on a constant basis, it is not likely that we could see him back in the company.
