It’s nothing new that WWE Universe gives mixed reactions to Roman Reigns. The outcome remains the same almost everywhere in the United States. The outside world is slightly better when it comes to greeting the Big Dog. It is one of the reasons why the company portrays him as the franchise player.
Now the WWE fans agreed the least with this fact ever since the beginning of this phase. But the creative team did not care much about it and stuck to their plans. Roman Reigns is still the favourite to feature in a championship match even after so much backlash around him.
If the current plans remain intact, he is still the front-runner to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. The planning might sound repetitive for the fans, but Vince McMahon has reportedly made up his mind around this match. The current storyline on WWE Raw suggests the same, as well.

Reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests the officials are still trying to get Roman Reigns ‘over’ with the fans. It is why the ongoing angle is bringing the contract negotiation issue of Brock Lesnar for multiple occasions. It will once again try to portray him in a position where he does not care about the fans, at all.
During Summerslam, the scenario might go down in a way where the beast will wish to go to UFC with his WWE Championship. The fans would strive to see the prime title present on the WWE Raw brand in that case. It will be something similar that WWE tried during this year’s Wrestlemania but failed.
The storyline will also bring out an unmoved Roman Reigns from his stance of becoming the new Universal Champion. Here are the updates from stillrealtous.com,
“The story being told with Roman is that everyone is telling him to step aside and let someone else challenge Brock because he’s already blown his previous opportunities.
The idea is to make it look like no one believes in Roman Reigns but himself, which could portray him as a sympathetic character, or at the very least a character who will hopefully earn the respect of the fans if he wins.”

From the looks of it, this storyline will do no good for the character of Roman Reigns. Fans are already tired of seeing him trying to pick up the Universal title for the past couple of years.
The repetitiveness of the Reigns vs Lesnar match will also not help to a solid build up for the main event of Summerslam.
