AJ Styles has been over with the feud against Kevin Owens at the Summerslam PPV. This rivalry was going on for the entire post-Wrestlemania season. Going forward, Owens got booked in a feud with Shane McMahon that will culminate a Hell in a Cell match.
On the other hand, it was expected that Styles would move forward to a new rivalry. As per the storylines, Baron Corbin was the appropriate rival for him to challenge for the United States title. This started with The Lone Wolf acting as a special guest referee for the last Owens-Styles match.
It was expected that these two would have some brutal physical fights over the title shortly as part of the full-fledged rivalry. But, in reality, no singles match has taken place, till date. Also, after what transpired, last week, chances are less that they will collide at Hell in a Cell.
As per earlier announcement, AJ Styles was supposed to defend his US title against Corbin on last week’s episode. But, Tye Dillinger interrupted since a bad blood brewed between him and Corbin, as well. The match never took place following the brawl that broke out on the show.
Considering this segment, we now have a third participant in the United States title picture in Tye Dillinger. So, it was reported by wrestlingINC.com that instead of a singles match, we might get a huge triple threat match. Styles is set to defend the title against both Corbin and Dillinger at Hell in a Cell.
This is going to be the very first feud for the Perfect ten after coming to the main roster after Wrestlemania. Fans complained a lot about his bad booking, and their demand has been met, finally. He could not get a better opportunity since The Phenomenal One will be against him.
Plus, this is a new booking from the Smackdown creative team. Corbin does not have any momentum by his side, and so Tye’s inclusion to the picture will help a lot. We can expect this match for Hell in a Cell PPV match to get official on this upcoming episode of Smackdown Live.
