This week’s Smackdown was the final night prior to the Fastlane pay-per-view event’s 2019 edition. The PPV storylines received boost-ups before culminating on the upcoming show. There was a shocking title change reserved where Samoa Joe dethroned R-Truth from his reign. Mustafa Ali returned to save Kevin Owens from the meanest heel of Smackdown. Plus, a brawl between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch ended the main show on the USA Network.

Full match card announced for Fastlane

Meanwhile, there was much more once the camera stopped rolling. Two of the top superstars from the blue brand squared off against each other delivering a Wrestlemania-caliber match. It was Randy Orton going up against AJ Styles in a one-on-one matchup for the dark segment. It happened once 205 Live tapings were over in the arena. Only a few people were left to watch this match.

WrestlingINC.com reported that AJ Styles picked up the big win against The Viper during this contest. Here’s more from this match from the source,

“The dark main event after Tuesday’s WWE TV tapings in Wilkes-Barre, PA saw AJ Styles defeat Randy Orton. Correspondent @markaelangelo noted that there were only around 500-1000 people left in the arena for the match, and the two Superstars played with the crowd. The crowd started a chant for referee Mike Chioda at one point, and Chioda hit the ropes for a salute. Styles eventually pinned Orton after that.”

As seen on this week’s Smackdown, AJ Styles and Randy Orton continued sharing backstage segment hinting a future rivalry. This is a dream match for the fans that have not been converted into a full-fledged rivalry, to date. The potential reason for not arranging the rivalry was to make them wait for the Wrestlemania season. So once Fastlane 2019 passes by, we expect these two engage in a storyline leading to a match on April 7th.

Speaking of these two brings us to the other dark match stored on Smackdown Live. The fans in attendance at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania witnessed The Heavy Machinery competing against SAnitY. Alexander Wolfe and Killian Dain represented their team whereas Eric Young was standing outside. Machinery received big cheers from the crowd and they eventually ended the match by picking up a win.
