Till date, Jinder Mahal has been portrayed as a great champion with the WWE title by his side. On May 21st, he won the title from Randy Orton at Backlash PPV. After that win, he has been able to defeat the Viper for two different occasions including the Punjabi Prison match at Battleground. If that was not enough, he did possess a pinfall win at the Summerslam PPV against Shinsuke Nakamura which was another tremendous accolade.
Going forward, Jinder Mahal is scheduled to defend his title at the Hell in a Cell PPV against The King of Strong Styles in a rematch from the biggest event of the summer. Quite surprisingly, the championship match will not be contested inside the unforgiven steel structure. But, it will be yet another marquee title match at the said event.
According to the earlier speculations, the Modern-Day Maharaja is dealing with some concussions heading into the match. So, there are chances that the championship reign might see an end at the hands of The Artist at the upcoming PPV.
However, if the reports of Wrestling Observer Newsletter is any indication then, Jinder Mahal is supposed to have a long title run which will continue for the remaining part of this year. As per the suggestions made by veteran journalist Bryan Alvarez of the source, the creative team will continue favouring the Indian-native, going forward. So, there’s no way that Nakamura will defeat him at Hell in a Cell.
The reason behind keeping him the champion is the upcoming India tour in December. He is expected to step his foot into his home-country as the reigning champion. Plus, Nakamura has not got the momentum by his side to be the WWE champion. So, he might not get his hands to the prime title until Wrestlemania 34.
A particular change might be arranged if only the India tour of the WWE is shown on the WWE Network. In that case, Jinder will lose the championship at Hell in a Cell to have a rematch in India. During the title rematch, he will win it back from Nakamura amidst the huge Indian support. This can only happen if Vince McMahon approves the plan before Hell in a Cell.
