When Jinder Mahal won the WWE Championship, it was supposed to be a fluke win which might end, all of a sudden.
The unthinkable happened at the Backlash PPV when he was able to defeat none other than a future Hall of Famer, Randy Orton in Chicago, Illinois. The crowd was in awe-struck when this happened, as Jinder left the arena by becoming the 50th WWE Champion in the history of the company.
Since then, he had quite a strong title run as a representative of our nation of India. The gimmick suited him well, as he has been able to earn some natural heats from the crowd making him one of the best heel in-ring workers, at this time.
In case you don’t know, Jinder Mahal started working in the WWE in 2012 before leaving two years later in 2014. He returned during last year’s brand extension draft with a great physique and work ethic that has been the key to his recent success. It is the reason WWE allowed him to continue the championship reigns even through the Summerslam PPV.
At this point, The Modern Day Maharaja had surpassed 100 days as the champion counting from May 21st till date. With this, he had already broken some of the veteran WWE Superstars records and on the verge to shatter some more shortly.
Jinder had already crossed some single WWE Championship reigns of certain WWE legends. As reported by SportsKeeda.com, veteran WWE names like Chris Jericho (98 days), Ric Flair (77 days), Edge (76 days) and Mankind (26 days) have already got surpassed by the current champion regarding their longest title run.
Eventually, if Jinder continues to make his hold on the title for some, more than he would certainly dethrone some more legendary names. He is set to defend his championship at the Hell in a Cell PPV which means the title reign will count 139 days which is more than the names like The Undertaker (133 days), Eddie Guerrero (133 days), Kurt Angle (126 days) and The Rock (119 days).
Shinsuke Nakamura will challenge Jinder Mahal in a rematch for the WWE Championship from Summerslam at the Hell in a Cell PPV. The Smackdown-exclusive event is scheduled to take place on October 8th at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
