Before becoming the new WWE champion, Jinder Mahal might be known best as the member of the 3MB back in 2013-14. He alongside Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater were the three members of the faction who was basically used to put over babyface superstars by taking a beat down almost on every single night.
The faction was formed back in December 2012 and continued to perform with their musical gimmick until 2014. The group was dismantled after the release of McIntyre and Mahal from the company, at that point. Slater was the only one to stay with the company.
Meanwhile, the Shield had their memorable debut on that course, as well. They made their presence felt during Survivor Series 2012, ruining the WWE championship match. It helped CM Punk to continue his title reign of over 365 days.
Recently, Jinder Mahal appeared in an episode of Chris Jericho’s podcast, “Talk is Jericho” to reveal an interesting storyline in 2012. He stated that the original planning for 3MB was much bigger since two other members were supposed to join the faction to make it even stronger.
Before the idea of the Shield came up with, Dean Ambrose was supposed to company them in this faction. Plus, Fandango was another one considered for the group. However, it did not come into fruition once The Shield’s birth took place in 2012, Check out his full statement here:
“I came to TV. I can’t remember where we were. Right when I got to the building, I see Heath Slater. He’s like, ‘man, I just had a meeting with Vince [McMahon]. I’m going to get my own band!’ [Mahal asked], ‘who’s going to be in it?’
He said, ‘I don’t know, man.’ Johnny Curtis wasn’t Fandango at the time and he was coming to TV. Surprisingly enough, Dean Ambrose was coming to TV. [Slater said], ‘well, maybe Ambrose’ not knowing that [he was going to The Shield]. They had other plans for him”
After that, the 3MB turned out to be one the most humiliating storylines in the history of the company. All the three men featuring in this group were frustrated with their position. Quite expectedly, two of them decided to walk away once their contract came to an end, afterward.
