WWE News: John Cena Commented On Why Match Against Undertaker Never Happened 1

It is every WWE fan’s dream to witness a match between The Undertaker and John Cena. It’s quite ironic that these two have been the superstars that carried the brand for two decades or more but the company never found an appropriate opportunity to put them in a match. As a result, the match of this century remains a fantasy match and is only available in the WWE 2K series.

For more than one occasions, the match was speculated to happen at the grandest stage of them all. WWE intended to make it happen at Wrestlemania 25. As part of it, Taker hit a Tombstone Piledriver on Cena during a show at Madison Square Garden. But, incidentally, Cena was replaced by Shawn Michaels, that year.

It was confirmed, once more for Wrestlemania 32. But, unfortunately, the franchise player of the company got sidelined due to an elbow injury. He was not able to be cleared by the doctors after undergoing a fatal shoulder surgery and the match got shelved, again.
Apart from these two prime occasions, we have heard numerous speculations of this mega match in other PPVs, as well including the upcoming Survivor Series PPV. But, the chances of seeing the bout is quite low.

In a recent episode of Edge & Christian podcast, John Cena was the guest and noted on this particular topic after getting asked by the WWE Hall of Famer. Cena replied that it’s his job to deliver the best matches that suit the company’s future and he continued to play his role. These are his comments:

“We have to do the best for WrestleMania, period. That event is completely [essential to] the fiscal future of the company and every single year, there were plans to do the right thing for WrestleMania and that match was not in the plans. And that’s the best I can say. The difficult part as a professional is to take what they need you to do and make it creative.”

Considering that The Undertaker is retired from in-ring competition, there is the least chance to witness the much-anticipated match. However, John Cena admitted that he would love to face The Phenome since it’s his dream match, too,

“In a perfect world, would I want to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania? That’s every pro wrestler’s dream! That’s any WWE Superstar’s dream, to work pretty much the maestro of WrestleMania at WrestleMania. That’s it! But if our company’s success depends on me doing something else, then my job is to do that something else”
