John Cena was always said to be the rumoured one to face Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship at Summerslam. The company is leaving no stones unturned to make Jinder’s title reign, a successful one and pitting him against the franchise player of the company would be the next step in this process.
So, we were not surprised to see the Cenation Leader accepting the WWE Champion’s challenge and announce that the title match between the two would go down at the biggest event of the summer. However, prior to this, John Cena was allowed to get inserted into the WWE Championship picture, abruptly creating much backlash.
So, this time around, Daniel Bryan has announced that there will be a match between John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura on the next edition of Smackdown Live. The winner of this first-time ever dream match will be declared as the number one contender and get the opportunity to face Jinder Mahal at Summerslam.
According to the reports of Sportskeeda.com, the man with “hustle, loyalty and respect” is undoubtedly the favourite to win this match and then face Jinder at the biggest party of the summer. But, as Cena claimed on Smackdown that he is going to be the 17-time world champion at the event, it might not be going down like that.
It is still not clear whether John Cena will still be available for the rest of this year once Summerslam gets concluded. So, the company is definitely not going to make him the champion, all of sudden for a short span of time. His earlier title run was also a shorter one that lasted only for two weeks.
Plus, we should keep in mind that Jinder Mahal is slated to come to India for a live event purpose with the championship still around his shoulder. The champion himself hinted the same in recent interviews. This is probably going to happen after Summerslam gets concluded indicating that he will continue with his title run even after August 20th.
But, until then, the ‘Modern-day Maharaja’ has to deal with the 16-time world champion. He intended to face the legendary superstar during his title reign to cement his legacy and his wish will come true in less than three weeks.
