John Cena was back on WWE programming with last week’s Smackdown. He was away for the last eight months from any storyline perspective. Only a couple of appearances in global stages witnessed him performing inside the squared circle. So he came back as a New Year’s gift to the fans.
Vince McMahon himself promoted him as the Greatest of All-time during this comeback. It included a date on last night’s episode of WWE Raw. No matter what, John Cena always remains a marquee attraction on WWE programming. Plus, he ruled the flagship show for more than a decade during his heyday.
So last night marked a return to his territory. WWE also needed this comeback to pull up the viewership in the occasion of New Year. TV ratings for WWE Raw have been the lowest for the last few weeks. Even Smackdown topped the figures for two consecutive weeks which was not good news. An appearance from John Cena assured that we will not have a dull segment.
He came out in a huge pop wearing his green t-shirt on WWE Raw. Pointing out that the Road to WrestleMania will commence at Royal Rumble PPV, he mentioned that it’s not good to miss out an opportunity. So what better way to cement a Wrestlemania spot by entering the Royal Rumble match? As per his view, we have to earn whatever we want to achieve in our life.
So Royal Rumble is the only way to earn the golden ticket to Wrestlemania. As for last night’s WWE Raw is concerned, John Cena was up for a challenge, indeed. He confronted Drew McIntyre in a verbal segment that was about to begin a physical confrontation. Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley interrupted creating their own brawl on the ramp. Finn Balor and Dean Ambrose also entered the scene creating utter chaos in the opening segment of WWE Raw.
We witnessed a six-man tag team match where John Cena returned to action on WWE Raw. Thanks to Seth Rollins that his comeback match ended in a positive note. The Architect was able to connect with the Stomp to pick up a big win in the first match of 2019 on the flagship show.
