John Cena has been away from WWE for a long time. 2018 has been the rarest year of his wrestling career where he wrestled in the minimum of numbers of matches. His win-loss record affected a lot due to this part-time status. Otherwise we could expect the least to see him getting squashed in a Wrestlemania match. The Undertaker defeated him under 4 minutes which was the last match from John Cena from a storyline perspective.
Full schedule of John Cena after the return
He returned to perform in a couple of matches following that but both of them were one-off performances. At Greatest Royal Rumble, John Cena defeated Triple H in perhaps the last match between the two of them. Thereafter he was present at WWE Super Show Down in Australia in a tag team match. Bobby Lashley was his tag partner to pick up a win against Elias and Kevin Owens on a global PPV.

Currently, the news is that John Cena will return to WWE during the upcoming Holiday Tour. It begins from December 26th onwards with a spectacular show at Madison Square Garden. There are still some uncertainties with his match as it is still not official. Furthermore, we also do not know whether WWE will bring him back on WWE Raw in due course.
The 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion recently spoke to Toronto Sun to talk about this comeback. He also gave a hint whether this means he will feature on TV as Wrestlemania 35 season kicks off following Royal Rumble. He started by apologizing to the WWE Universe for being away for so long. At the same time, he is thankful to WWE for allowing him to perform in such a flexible schedule,
“I do apologize for being away for so long, but I have these wonderful opportunities to try and be a part of another storytelling universe that I truly enjoy. The WWE is the place that for the past 15 years I’ve had the absolute most fun. I very much look forward to getting back there.”
John Cena confirmed that none his appearances will feature on TV. He has got a break from movie schedule for one month and will use it by performing on house shows only. This certainly is bad news for the Cenation who was waiting to see him on TV,
“On December 26th, I return to Madison Square Garden and do a nice live event run with the WWE right up through the middle of January. None of these shows are televised. I’m literally just doing it because I want to get back to a place I feel most comfortable and to working with people I can call my family. And I want to have some fun.”

However, we do want to let you know that WWE Raw is still advertising John Cena on January 7th episode. In fact, Smackdown is also advertising him for a show prior to Royal Rumble. If this is any indication then we should get a glimpse of him on WWE’s weekly programming.
