The journey of a Hall of Famer on WWE’s flagship show came to an end on last night’s edition broadcasted from USA’s capital city of Washington. It was good to see Kurt Angle coming out in the midst of thunderous cheers from the crowd. They broke out into ‘Thank You Kurt’ chants as WWE channeled a tribute video for the former world champion. He was in tear, as well, standing in the middle of the ring.
However, Baron Corbin could care the least for his Wrestlemania 35 opponent and went bad mouth. Rey Mysterio had to interfere with this segment to demand a match against Corbin in his friend’s honor. It ultimately became the main event of this week’s WWE Raw. Mysterio missed a top rope splash allowing Corbin to deliver the End of Days to pick up the big win. But thankfully, Kurt Angle managed to get the last laugh, (via WWE.com)
“Angle snuck up on a gloating Corbin, double-legged him to the ramp and wrenched in an Ankle Lock that left The Lone Wolf tapping and crying for mercy. A crew of WWE officials forced Angle to release the hold, but he had made his point: Corbin may be bigger. He may be stronger. He may be faster. But Kurt Angle might just be plain better.”
Last night’s WWE Raw must have been an emotional night for some of the WWE Universe members who are Kurt Angle fans. He is the only Olympic Gold Medalist who won the medal with a broken ‘freaking’ neck. So his followers are all around the globe who witnessed the final match of his career on WWE Raw as he took on against Rey Mysterio.
It was good to learn that WWE creative allowed him to enjoy a farewell run for the past few weeks. He got to choose his opponents from both WWE Raw and Smackdown. He went on to select some dream matches especially last week’s bout against AJ Styles. He also competed against Samoa Joe over on WWE Raw.
Lastly, Kurt Angle demanded Rey Mysterio that could have marked his final match on WWE’s flagship show. These two had a ton of history from WWE’s Ruthless Aggression Era including a Wrestlemania triple threat match in 2006. Thankfully, WWE allowed them to recreate the old times producing some precious memories for the pro-wrestling fans. However, with Baron Corbin lurking around, those moments never arrived. But Kurt Angle was able to stand tall while closing the show.
