Bobby Roode and Chad Gable became WWE Raw tag team champions, last year. These two started 2018 as a singles competitor. Gable lost his partner Jason Jordan from American Alpha whereas Roode has always been a top superstar on the roster. So both were going to get a push on the singles division.

But WWE’s tag team division was weaker at that point. So the creative team thought of combining these two as a team to strengthen that particular roster. They eventually won the championships dethroning AOP from their reign. But the motive to make them the champions did not turn out to be successful.
Roode was involved in a romantic angle
A lackluster title run followed for Bobby Roode and Chad Gable that took them to nowhere. In fact, the WWE creative team digested a lot of fan backlash for not booking the tag team division in a proper way. This is not acceptable for a superstar like Bobby Roode who was a former NXT Champion and the United States Champion on the main roster.
Going forward, WWE does have a plan to use him as a solo star, again. If recent reports are to go by then he will soon change his character and get back the significant position on the roster. According to Slice Wrestling, WWE is planning a heel turn and singles push for former WWE Raw Tag Team Champion Bobby Roode.
Bobby Roode and Chad Gable lost their tag team championships to The Revival in recent times. It was the right thing to do since their title run was unable to leave any mark on the fans. Bringing back one of them to the singles division would be the right thing to do. So it looks like breaking them up would be a smart decision to do.
Meanwhile, it was long-time planning to turn Bobby Roode a villain which is yet to become fruitful, (courtesy wwfoldschool.com)
“It should be noted that WWE originally planned Roode turning heel by turning on his tag team partner Gable last year, but WWE nixed those plans and pushed this team as RAW’s tag team division was weak at that point.”
There’s a big reason that WWE is turning Bobby Roode into a heel. They might want to put him into the mid-card title picture. It is possible that he ends up facing Finn Balor for the Intercontinental Championship. We should not wonder if this match culminates on the Wrestlemania 35 match card.
