Till date, five championship matches have been confirmed to take place at the Backlash PPV event.
From the main roster, the WWE Championship, the Raw and Smackdown Women’s championships and the mid-card titles will be put on the line. The Universal and the tag team titles get excluded from the list. If the recent reports are to go by then another title match gets added to the show.
Quite expectedly, this is going to be the Cruiserweight Championship which is the only title remaining from the list. Cedric Alexander has been able to retain his title against Kalisto in a spectacular match at Greatest Royal Rumble. With no number one contender being present for Alexander, the GM of 205 Live signed Buddy Murphy on the show, this week.
There was bad blood between Alexander and Murphy, already. Owing to this, they engaged in a brawl during the show. It became so much intense teasing a good rivalry. Apparently, the first instalment of their feud might be seen at Backlash in the form of a match.
According to the recent reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Cruiserweight title match might be made official for the Backlash PPV event. Cedric Alexander will face Buddy Murphy in a one-on-one matchup. No official address has been observed on this.
As per previous updates, we expected to receive a match on the pre-show for Backlash. On the one-hour show, we are bound to see at least one match. It has been the tradition, all the way.
In general, the cruiserweight battle out in this capacity which airs before the main show. With multiple matches already confirmed for the main show from both the brand, it’s almost certain this championship matches will get pushed to the pre-show that sets the tone for the actual event.
