There were multiple reasons as of why WWE decided to pair up John Cena with his real life partner, Nikki Bella at Wrestlemania 33.
The first reason was of course due to the mainstream attention it acquired after Cena finally proposed to Nikki in the middle of the ring.
In addition, several reports prior to Wrestlemania stated that the match might mark an abrupt end to Nikki’s career.
The neck injury for which she had undergone the surgery was giving her a lot of trouble for quite some time now.
She has also gone through MRI and CT scan and the reports suggested that she should stay away from in-ring competition to heal the wound in her neck. WWE thought that they might not get another chance to let the first couple of the WWE featuring in a match, ever again and went forward with it.
The rumours went viral that the interesting match might be the last time that we see the longest reigning Divas champion competing in the WWE ring.
Furthermore, after Cena proposed Nikki Bella at the grandest stage of them all, most of the WWE universe thought that the speculations are legit.

But, it is not true at all since Nikki confirmed that she is taking just sometimes off from in-ring competition. There’s a catch in this particular time-off which was clarified by Nikki during the Wrestlemania Axxess event.
She attended a Q&A session with the fans and stated that there are some issues in her neck which need to be addressed. Doctors advised her to get some rest to heal up the wounds that are affecting in her neck.
She also stated that there is nothing serious about it and will be back as quick as possible. The reports from 434.com also stated it is not the end of Nikki’s career in the WWE.
Furthermore, advertisements for some of the live events from the Smackdown brand are out. Starting from the month of May, the Bella Queen is being advertised on those shows. This is also a good indication that she will come back earlier than thought.
In case you don’t know, John Cena is also in a time-off after performing at Wrestlemania 33. He will be filming ‘The Pact’ movie and is not expected to be back until Summerslam later this year.
